Homework Policy
For the reasons expressed below, homework is regarded by the teachers
and parents at this school as serving an extremely useful purpose.
Consequently it is prescribed on a regular daily/weekly basis, using
the general guidelines as indicated below, and each child is therefore
expected to conform to the specific expectations as detailed for
each class and notified to parents at the parent/teacher meeting
at the commencement of each year.
PURPOSE OF HOMEWORK
- To consolidate work done at school
- To encourage and cultivate “home-study” habits
- To provide a link between school and home/teachers and parents
- To increase parent awareness of work being done at school
- To increase parent awareness of child’s capabilities in
certain areas
- To cater for parent expectations in this community
- To develop independent learning, responsibility and time management
skills.
GENERAL GUIDELINES
- Teachers should not attempt to have students learn at home,
work which has not been taught at school.
- The responsibility for the completion of homework rests with
the parents and students.
- SUGGESTED time limits for each year level are as follows:
| K |
15 minutes |

- Allowance should be made for the different rates at which children
work.
- All homework must be reviewed/marked the following day or (if
using a weekly homework sheet) as soon as completed.
- Homework should not cause students undue stress nor should it
create friction between parent and child (careful pre-explanation
is therefore necessary).
- Presentation of homework should be of sufficient quality to
satisfy both parent and teacher. Parents are to be informed of
unsatisfactory presentation.
- Consideration needs to be given to reducing the amount of homework
during periods when ‘At Home Assignments’ are also
being undertaken.
- A Homework Record should be maintained for each child in the
class and parents notified if unsatisfactory.
- Incomplete homework MAY need to be completed at school during
lunchtime.
